A few tips when buying watercraft insurance:
- Most homeowner’s policies provide watercraft liability coverage, but it is limited and may not provide the coverage you require. In most cases, the safest bet is to insure your boat for liability under a separate watercraft policy.
- Specify the navigation territory in which you plan to operate your boat. Most watercraft policies will not provide coverage outside the specified territory.
- If you are a seasonal boat user, know your policy’s layup period – that is, the off-season storage period during which coverage for boat use is temporarily suspended.
